New Lead Paint Guidelines are here from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The new guidelines focus on identifying and controlling lead-based paint and other housing hazards. The guidelines will also reduce child hood exposure to lead without increasing the cost of renovation by support property owners, government agencies and private contractors.
HUD goal is to provide healthier housing for all families, including federal associated housing.
Property owners, landlords and child-care center operators can use The Guidelines for the Evaluation and Control of Lead Based Paint Hazards in Housing. The Guidelines are favorable because they complement regulations issued by HUD, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
It’s important that the Guidelines are followed because uncontrolled housing renovation work causes lead poisoning.
The cost of cleaning up a house contaminated with lead can run as high as $195,000.
