This study from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) indicates there’s a correlation between the indoor air quality (IAQ) in a school and student performance. It’s actually something of a snowball effect, but here are the main points.
From a very basic standpoint, good IAQ reduces absenteeism of students with asthma or other allergy problems. More days in school means more learning and better performance. But there’s more to the study than that. It finds that improved ventilation or air purity increased the speed at which students work and reduced the transmission of infectious disease. Teacher performance also improved.
