Winter can mean freezing pipes breaking and ice dams causing roof leaks. All of this leads to the potential for mold growth. The most important thing is to contact us immediately so we can schedule a time to help you clean up and eliminate any mold. However, there are steps you can take in the meantime in case wet items will be sitting for more than 24-48 hours.
- After shutting off water to the broken pipe or clearing the ice dam, get rid of any standing water as quickly as possible.
- Get the area ventilated to encourage drying and reduce humidity. Fans, dehumidifiers, air conditioning and open windows can all help this.
- Wet objects that you want to save need to be dried quickly or frozen to prevent mold growth until we can clean them.
- Wet objects that you don’t want to keep should be immediately disposed of outside the house.
Keep these tips in mind in case you’re faced with a flood or leak in your home.
